Highlights from our friends at Colorado Egg Producers!

Colorado Egg Producers recently made a visit to the best breakfast restaurant in Denver – Original Pancake House! Check out the highlights below:

Our chef Alex Tafoya talked about our best egg-centric dishes with our friends over at Colorado Egg Producers, who were recently on the hunt for the best brunch places in Colorado in their Summer Brunch Tour. As one of the places with the best breakfast food in Denver, they made the right decision by stopping by and chatting with chef Alex. Among the dishes from our menu they highlighted were the Apple Pancake, Dutch Baby, and Denver Omelette. Each is made with anywhere from three to eight eggs, giving you all the nutrients you need to start your day off deliciously right. Colorado Egg Producers were on a mission to find the best egg dishes in the state, and they found several of them at the Original Pancake House breakfast restaurant in Denver.

As any dietitian or nutritionist will tell you, eggs are one of the most nutritious foods on the planet. A whole egg contains all the necessary nutrients to turn a cell into a baby chicken, so it’s no surprise that they’re one of the best foods you can eat to start your day. At the Original Pancake House breakfast restaurant in Denver, we crack all of our eggs fresh in-house every day, so you can rest assured that whatever egg-centric dish you order has been made with fresh eggs.

Colorado Egg Producers also stopped by to check in with our amazing chef Guillermo and document his amazing ability to crack eggs. Guillermo can crack 180 eggs in under two minutes! It’s thanks to chef Guillermo’s skill that we can use freshly cracked eggs in all of our scrumptious egg dishes all day long. It’s because of people like Guillermo that we’re able to confidently way we make some of the best breakfast food in Denver! Come visit us today at our Cherry Creek or DTC locations today!

Creative hot chocolate

Get Creative with Hot Chocolate

Winter’s here, which means more and more cold days and nights that demand a bit of extra comfort. And one piece of the winter coziness is none other than the classic cup of hot chocolate!

Hot chocolate is the perfect drink for the wintertime, as it not only warms you up, but you can also enjoy it with the entire family, no matter their age. It’s the favorite drink of many, but do you know why?

Because it’s very versatile. Ask anyone about their favorite hot chocolate recipes, and you’ll likely be met with a variety of options, from the simple dark chocolate ones to the intricate spice-infused chocolates.

At The Original Pancake House, we love ourselves some unique hot chocolate, so we’ve gathered a few unique recipes you can try out right now.

Creative Hot Chocolate Recipes to Keep You Warm

It’s easy to experiment with this drink and create your own fun hot chocolate recipes, but if you need a bit of help, here are our 5 top creative recipes to get you started:

  1. Malted Hot Chocolate

This recipe is all about combining the homemade chocolate mix with delicious marshmallows. But, the secret here lies in the additional malted milk powder that gives the beverage a nice, nutty flavor and natural sweetness.

  1. Vanilla Mocha Hot Cocoa

A truly creative hot chocolate beverage, this recipe packs two surprising ingredients compared to classic hot chocolate: maple syrup, and instant coffee. Combined with the cocoa, vanilla, and dark chocolate, you’ll get the perfect balance of sweet and bitter!

  1. Peanut Butter Hot Chocolate

Peanut butter and chocolate are a winning combination in any dessert, and this recipe puts it into a warm cup of goodness. You’ll need a blender to make this one, and ensure the beverage turns out smooth and creamy!

  1. White Hot Chocolate

Dark and milk chocolates are the go-to, but let’s not get stuck on these two options. This creative white hot chocolate recipe with a citric twist proves white chocolate can hold its own in the competition.

  1. Dairy-Free Hot Chocolate

Even pre-packaged hot chocolate mixes can have powdered milk, which can be a problem for those who prefer not to eat dairy. But, give this dairy-free recipe a shot, which replaces regular milk with almond milk, and adds a fruity topping.

You can play with the recipe and opt for other types of milk, like oats or coconut to see which is the winning combination for you.

Christmas breakfast buffet

Breakfast Buffet for Christmas

Christmas is just a few days away, so now is a great time to start thinking about what you want to include in your Christmas morning breakfast buffet.

We are here to help you kick off the best time of year with an amazing breakfast meal that’s bound to make you and your friends and family very happy. Here at Original Pancake House, we’re very passionate about creativity in food, especially when it comes to breakfast, so we’ve gathered three great Christmas breakfast buffet ideas just for you!

Smoky Tater Hash

Start with this simple recipe that’s perfect for Christmas morning, especially if your go-to for breakfast food is something savory. All you need is around half an hour to make four servings of this diner-style breakfast meal.

To make it, you’ll need some frozen potato puffs, mushrooms, red peppers, onions, and the condiments you like, maybe even some herbs for an extra kick. To complete the dish, place a fried egg on top, and enjoy.

Strawberry Cheesecake Pancakes

If you’re more of a sweet-breakfast type of person, then you can’t go wrong with pancakes for your Christmas breakfast buffet! But this pancake recipe actually goes the extra mile and adds a delicious strawberry topping that’s sweet, yet fresh.

Prep time here only takes a couple of minutes, and you’ll need an additional half an hour to make the pancakes (or more, depending on how many people stop by for brunch.) We love pancakes because it feels like the perfect breakfast meal to cook with loved ones around you, and it’s always a hit with the kids.

Blueberry Sweet Rolls With Lemon

This recipe is a bit more technically challenging than the other two, but the results are very worth it. Starting the day with some sweet rolls is ideal for any day of the year, but this 4-ingredient stuffing recipe seems like it was created for Christmas morning.

Because of the blueberries, these rolls have more of a fruit-tart taste, and the sweetness of the cinnamon and sugar is nicely balanced by the lemon. You’ll need a bit more than an hour to make this one, and some more attention for making the dough, but once you get the technique down this is surely the recipe everyone in your group will want to get their hands on.

Blueberry-PancakesEnjoy Christmas morning by trying these creative breakfast and brunch recipes, and make some nice memories with your loved ones. It’s really the perfect day to try something new and set family traditions for years to come.

Although the Original Pancake House is closed on Christmas Day, we’ll be open for Christmas Eve and New Years’ Day from 6:30 AM – 2:00 PM. Join us for take-out or heated patio seating at our DTC or Cherry Hills location.

DIY Christmas Gift Ideas

DIY Christmas Gift Ideas

Let’s face it, homemade Christmas gifts are sometimes the best gifts to give (and receive). They’re more affordable and have a lot of heart and thought packed into them. You can really make your DIY Christmas gift unique because it’ll be different and unlike anything else you can find in the shops. Opting for homemade Christmas gifts allows you to get personal with the gifts as they often provide the recipient with more meaning than a store-bought gift. With Christmas just around the corner, now is the time to start thinking about creating the perfect homemade Christmas gifts and we have some ideal DIY Christmas gift ideas to get you started!

Gift Ideas for Coworkers

Keep it simple, creative, and personal this year with homemade Christmas gifts for your coworkers. Coasters are a must-have for any home, and now you have an opportunity to make them quirky. Grab some Scrabble tiles from your local game shop and arrange them to create the perfect sized coaster. Bonus points if you know coworkers well enough to pick words that relate to what they like. Candles are also a great addition to any home. Pick up some wax, wicks, and tins and you’re all set! If you’re thinking you might want to get your coworkers something they can display at the office, consider gifting them small succulents or air plants that can sit on their desks. Succulents don’t require a lot of attention and can be super thoughtful when planted in a novelty planter like an elephant. Now for the coworker that you just have to buy a 6-pack for – get creative and decorate the bottles as reindeer. Find some pipe cleaners and twist them into antlers around the bottles and pop a red pompom on the sides. Voila, you have a pack of reindeer!

The Perfect DIY Gift for Mom

When it comes to DIY Christmas gift ideas, this is your moment to shine. Moms appreciate homemade Christmas gifts more than anyone else because they enjoy the sentimental aspect. She’s done a lot for you, so pamper her this year with a jar of coconut rose sugar body polish and maybe toss in some heavenly scented bath salts to give her the spa day she deserves. Maybe your mom doesn’t really enjoy baths but loves cooking. In that case, pick up some plain wooden spoons and a wood-burning kit to customize them, and she’ll be thinking of you every time she works away in the kitchen. Photos are also very sentimental for moms and we have a couple of creative ways to package them up as a gift. Get a calendar made with pictures of her loved ones or paste snapshots onto tiles for a unique coaster set.

The Gift of Conversation

Homemade Christmas gifts are very sentimental and if you want to give someone something special this holiday season, creating it yourself might be the best option. These one-of-a-kind gifts are more personal than most and can be crafted with love even on a budget. Great conversation is a gift of its own, so if you haven’t had the time to craft your gifts, treat your coworkers, friends, or family to breakfast or lunch at The Original Pancake House. Easily order online for takeout or save your spot in line using the Yelp Waitlist.

family fall activities

Fun Fall Activities for the Family

It’s that time of year again when the mornings are crisp and the leaves on the trees are changing colors – a family favorite. As the summer melts away, the scent of fall wafts through the air. What many consider to be the best season of the year has pumpkins appearing on porches and fresh pies cooling by windows. This time of year is also incredible for the limitless budget-friendly family fall activities – there are so many options, you’ll want to consider making a bucket list to make sure you don’t forget to do your favorites.

Family Fall Activities for Kids

The great thing about autumn is that a lot of family fall activities can be enjoyed in the comfort of your own home for little money. Tune into your child’s sense of adventure by adding some classic fall activities for kids to your autumn bucket list. Bundle up in cozy knits and scarves and take them to choose the perfect pumpkin at a local pumpkin patch. Once the winner has been selected, head home to enjoy the festivity of carving pumpkins together. Finish the day off with a mug of hot apple cider while snuggled up under a cozy blanket – bonus fall points if you’re gathered around a bonfire or watching a classic Halloween movie (Hokus Pokus or Casper, perhaps?).

If you’re feeling restless inside the house, get some fresh air and take full advantage of autumn outdoor family fall activities. Rake up some leaves for a fun fall photo shoot or go for a scenic drive and take in the beauty of the changing colors of the trees. This season is packed with adventure and fall activities for kids. Consider visiting a haunted house or make a pit stop to navigate your way through a corn maze. Festivals are popular this time of year, so if you have a hankering for candy apples and hayrides, keep your eyes peeled for hometown festivities.

Enjoy Your Time Together

Trying to get every item on your autumn bucket list checked off can be quite chaotic, so it is important to remember to live in the moment and simply enjoy spending time with your family. Amid the chaos of family fall activities, try to think of a few favorites to turn into new traditions of your own that you can keep on the list every year. Some favorite family fall activities often involve gathering and baking. At The Original Pancake House we know a room filled with the aroma of apples, cinnamon, nutmeg, and fresh pumpkin pie is cozy, welcoming, and one of the best places to gather. Come in and sit down with your closest friends and family to enjoy some of our mouthwatering signature dishes. If you’re busy with that checklist, call ahead or save a spot in line using our Yelp Waitlist! Stop by this November before you head out in search of family fall activities, and The Original Pancake House will be thrilled to fuel your day!

Thanksgiving Morning

What to Do Thanksgiving Morning

Thanksgiving is a time for family, friends, fun, and food. Most spend the morning preparing for an afternoon filled with a delicious feast, but what do you do if you’re not the one cooking? The afternoon is booked up with the big meal, so it’s up to you to do something fun in the morning.

Things to Do Thanksgiving Morning

In all the hustle and bustle of preparing for Thanksgiving Day meals, we often forget to plan things to do Thanksgiving morning. Here are a few ideas to get you started.

  • Watch the Thanksgiving Day Parade. An old classic – families have been watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on TV for decades. Liven it up a little and make it interesting with a fun round of Thanksgiving Day Parade bingo. Make a bingo chart with all the items you think you might find in the parade, and the first one to yell bingo thanksgiving morning gets the first slice of pumpkin pie.
  • Run a Turkey-Trot. If you’re experiencing a bit of pre-guilt in anticipation of all the food you’re about to eat, this one is for you. Go on your local turkey trot (usually 5k) to build up a proper appetite and get some exercise before the big meal.
  • Have a mini pumpkin hunt. This is a great activity for thanksgiving morning that’s fun for groups of all ages. Put a spin on an Easter egg hunt and hide mini pumpkins everywhere – indoors and outdoors to keep it interesting. Mini pumpkins are a bit bigger than your average egg, so you might have to get clever with hiding them.
  • Prepare for Black Friday. If you’re someone who likes to get all your Christmas shopping done in one day, Black Friday is the day to do it. Why not prepare for the day after Thanksgiving by using your spare time on Thanksgiving morning to make a shopping game plan?
  • Play a game. Bond with your family over some board games, or a round of charades. If you have an idea of something new and fun that incorporates Thanksgiving, give it a shot and maybe it’ll be a new Thanksgiving tradition!
  • Volunteer at a soup kitchen. Many of us have more than others, and Thanksgiving Day can be spent serving food to less-fortunate families at a soup kitchen. If you can’t help on Thanksgiving morning, consider looking for ways to pitch in and give back to the community on the days leading up to Thanksgiving. A little kindness goes a long way.

Enjoy the Day With People You Love

Whether you’re looking for fresh ideas or you already have family traditions in place, there is an unlimited number of ways to spend your Thanksgiving morning -- but the most important thing is to enjoy it with the people you love. We invite you to stop by The Original Pancake House this November to gather and share our signature dishes with your closest friends and family. In this busy holiday season, call ahead or use our Yelp Waitlist to ensure you’ve saved your spot in line. We can’t wait for you to join us in the festive fun!

(We are closed on Thanksgiving Day to be with friends and family)

Denver Stanley Marketplace

Visit the Stanley Marketplace

Have you finished a scrumptious breakfast and now you're looking for something fun to do in the Denver area? Try heading east to Aurora, Colorado. This Denver suburb is home to the Stanley Marketplace — one of the best places to visit in Denver!

Visiting the Stanley Marketplace

Part food court, part urban bazaar, the Stanley Marketplace is an entity all its own. This unique community gathering place is located at a former aviation manufacturing facility (the Stanley Aviation Corporation) that was once adjacent to Denver's original international airport. Stapleton Field may be long gone but the Stanley is here to stay!

The Stanley Marketplace is a go-to destination on the border between Aurora and Denver. It attracts shoppers, diners, partiers, and those just looking for a cool place to hang out with friends. There are more than a dozen independently owned shops, a beer hall, and nearly a dozen bars and restaurants to frequent at the Marketplace. All told, there are more than fifty local, independently-owned businesses at this 140,000-square-foot much-loved community center!

Add in the fact that there's an event center (appropriately called 'The Hanger'), yoga studio, and co-working space, and you might be getting a feel for the vibe here. There's also an early learning center and gymnastics studio in case you're wondering how family-friendly it is.

The History Behind It

It all started with beer. Former social worker Mark Shaker was lamenting the lack of a place to hang out in the neighborhood. That desire for a beer hall eventually turned into an opportunity to save a historic factory and unite two disparate communities. Oh, and a great place to hang out, drinking beer with your friends!

Stanley Marketplace Events Abound

That's right, there's always something fun or exciting happening at the Stanley! After all, that's part of the 'Stanifesto' that makes the Stanley Marketplace so great. As these guidelines for the Stanley point out, "Every day is an opportunity to put goodness into the world." Events that bring the community together to experience joy do just that!

Spring and Summer at the Stanley

Celebrate Mother's and Father's Day with your family. Enjoy food tastings or pick up fresh produce at the Farmer's Market. Attend art events and concerts. Join in one of the fitness gatherings so you can make the most of your summer.

Fall Festivities

Do some fancy pumpkin carving. Don your best costume to try to win a prize at the costume contest and then attend the spooky Halloween festivities. Celebrate your Thanksgiving blessings with family and friends.

A Winter Wonderland

Get into the holiday spirit with homemade holiday cards and caroling. Enjoy gingerbread houses, festival wreaths, and joyous people celebrating holiday happiness at the Stanley Marketplace!

Stop in for Breakfast on Your Way to the Stanley

Our Yelp Waitlist lets you call ahead and save your space in line. We'll have you all fueled up and ready to hit the Stanley in no time. Once there, you'll be extra thankful for taking the time to eat a good breakfast before you went. After all, there's a lot to see and do at Aurora's unique Stanley Marketplace!
